Empowhering the Pivot was founded by Lakeisha Swain after she identified a gap in her community: people struggling with addiction and people navigating domestic violence needed more support than what was available to them. The organization grew out of that need and out of a deep, personal commitment to these populations.

The "H" in our name is silent, and it's there on purpose. It stands for His and Her, because we exist to serve both men and women, and because we believe that even a small pivot, made with the help of others, can create lasting change in a person's circumstances.

What We Do

• Housing navigation — connecting participants to safe, stable housing and helping them navigate applications, waitlists, and landlords

• Transportation resources — removing the ride barrier to treatment, court dates, work, and appointments

• Employment support — job search assistance, application help, and connection to workforce partners

• Basic needs — food and clothing, provided without hoops

• Care coordination and referral — connecting participants to treatment, legal aid, advocacy, and community partners, and staying with them through the handoff
